Stingers Investing in Local Community and Youth Programs in Malaysia

The Territory Stingers took time out from their Malaysian Hockey League journey to run a community clinic with kids from local primary schools as part of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation’s National Hockey Development Program (NHDP). Held at the iconic Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium, the clinic brought together young aspiring players aged 9 to 12 for a morning of fun, skill-building, and inspiration.
For the Stingers, investing in the local community and youth programs is a core part of their commitment to Malaysia. They are determined to be more than just a team that arrives to play hockey; they want Malaysia to feel like a second home. With the Northern Territory’s deep multicultural roots and strong ties to Southeast Asia, this initiative reinforces the team’s long-term vision of strengthening the connection between the two regions.
The kids had a fantastic time getting out on the turf, training alongside the Stingers players, and learning new skills. But the highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the Q&A session, where the young athletes had the chance to ask the Stingers players about their journeys, challenges, and aspirations in the sport. Their curiosity and enthusiasm showed just how much this experience meant to them.
Adding to the excitement, a few lucky kids walked away with Stingers training caps, which quickly became prized possessions. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the way our players embraced the opportunity to engage and give back to the community was a proud moment for the Stingers. This is what sport is all about—building relationships, inspiring the next generation, and creating opportunities that go beyond the game.
We’re grateful to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation for allowing us to be part of this incredible program, and we look forward to future engagements with the local community in Malaysia.
